Empowering Youth in Tanzania, One Bee at a Time.

Miombo Beekeepers is a youth-led membership organisation on a mission to make a sweet and a healthy impact. Their journey began in 2019 with just five members and has grown to over nine members today. The youth group takes great pride in holding a certificate of excellence from the prestigious African Regional Apimondia Symposium. With the support of government-led financing initiatives, including the Tanzania Agriculture Fund (TAF) and the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO), the group has been able to establish a sustainable beekeeping business.

Miombo honey is sourced from the enchanting Miombo Woodlands of Tabora, Tanzania. This region is renowned for its ecological diversity, boasting the magnificent Igombe Forest and Igombe River. Tabora comprises 34,698 sq. km. of forest reserves and 17,122 sq. km. of game reserves, creating a pristine environment free from pesticides and chemicals. It is within this unspoiled land that our bees flourish, gathering pure nectar from the wide array of wildflower species found in Tabora. To preserve this stunning biodiversity, we employ top bar hives that use less wood, ensuring sustainable beekeeping practices.

Miombo Beekeepers’ vision is to be at the forefront of sustainable beekeeping in Tanzania, setting an example for beekeepers worldwide with their ethical and environmentally friendly practices. They are committed to providing its customers with top-quality honey and beeswax products that they can trust. The group’s ultimate goal is to build a future where beekeeping is sustainable, and bee populations thrive, safeguarding the vital role these pollinators play in the ecosystem.

Miombo Beekeepers, are not just passionate about honey; they are committed to driving positive change. Through our youth beekeeping initiative, they empower over 100 young individuals across Tabora to develop their beekeeping and business development skills. “At Miombo Beekeepers, we are passionate about creating a positive impact that extends beyond our delicious honey and beeswax products. We firmly believe in the power of education and the immense potential of Tanzanian youth. Through our youth beekeeping initiative, we are dedicated to providing education and creating employment opportunities for more than 100 young individuals across Tabora.” - Edward Kitenyi, Founding Member.

Miombo Beekeepers aims to empower young beekeepers to develop and cultivate their own environmentally friendly bee businesses. By imparting knowledge and skills in sustainable beekeeping practices, the group is nurturing a new generation of environmental stewards while also ensuring youth businesses bring about a positive and significant impact on the overall economy of Tanzania. These passionate individuals become champions of biodiversity protection, ensuring the long-term conservation and preservation of our precious ecosystems.

The youth group recognizes that true sustainability can only be achieved through equality and inclusivity. Miombo Beekeepers youth beekeeping initiative embraces individuals from diverse backgrounds, providing them with equal opportunities to thrive and succeed. By breaking down barriers and promoting equality, the youth-owned and let group builds a strong foundation for a more harmonious and just society.
